Yes we can, but...

The question whether we can afford open end ICU should be answered with "yes we can".(1) But as with Obama's slogan there are connotations. ..............Open-end care for everybody causes harm to too many and is not affordable. If we can avoid this structural shortcoming we might be able to afford open end care for exceptional patients as described in the ethical discussion.
